At 11:30 am yesterday I was set free for summer vacation- woohoo!! The last week of work was insanely busy with having my kids perform at the graduation ceremony. It made for a long week when I just wanted to shut down mentally instead of hauling the choir, concert band, and steel drum ensemble to the UIC pavilion for a 2 hour long graduation ceremony. It was bittersweet watching the class of 2008 graduate. These kids were my babies, we started together four years ago. One of my favorite students opted not to walk across the stage and participate in the ceremony...not because of grades, she graduated 10th in a class of 400 and received almost a full ride to Loyola. She wanted to play in the band one last time and sit with me. It was a touching gesture. I watched this student grow from a shy little girl into an articulate, beautiful young woman who will be insanely successful in all areas of her life. I told her this at the end of the evening. I wanted her to know how important she was to me. She began to cry and told me how much I meant to her and that she would never forget me. For me, it was one of those moments that just reaffirmed why I teach. After we wrapped up all of the last day bullshit, my work friend Leslie and I went to Moonshine for cocktails and lunch and had a fabulous time. Amy, the new choir teacher joined us, and then we went over to Goose Island Brewery for a few more beers with some of the art teachers and the rest of the music department. Such a fun and relaxing way to wrap up the year. I was invited to another co-workers party last night, but opted to stay in. My friend Freddy came over and we watched Mean Girls, because he had never seen it. We laughed and had a great time. Today is all about getting clothes for the summer. I threw out all of my shorts during a feng shui attack this winter, and now I only have one pair left. Lindsay and I are hitting Old Navy, Macy's, Nordstrom Rack, and a few other downtown shopping hot spots. Later in the afternoon, I am planning on meeting up with the rest of the gang at the Andersonville Summerfest. I am thouroughly excited about today, good times and good friends. Summer is here! Well, It has been a while since I posted, so since I have some extra time this morning, I will give all my valued readers a run down of what has been going on in my life lately! * Work has been creazy this year. I have never been so ready for a school year to end, and I still have 10 weeks left *sigh* I found myself, several months into the school year, thrust into the position of department chair at my school. I was not ready for this, and the circumstances that brought this event on have weighed on me heavily. My co-worker, Le Quita a.ka. ghetto bitch from hell, who was the chair of the music department got caught up in a Mary Kay Letourneau type scandal. Yup, that's right, the bitch was sleeping with a male student. She ended up taking a leave of absence, followed by a resignation, then finally the Board of Education fired her ass. I have had to clean up her mess, deal with nasty co-workers that some how believe I set her up (WTF????), hateful kids that think I am trying to 'whiten' up the music department, and an apathetic, unsupportive administration that wants to ignore the problem and hope that it goes away. Hey, what doesn't kill us makes us stronger. I have learned a lot about people and myself from dealing with this. * Despite the drama in the music department, my band program is FLOURISHING this year. My kids performed at the CPS city-wide music festival a few weeks back and were amazing. I was so proud and pleased with the accomplishments and how the represented the school and the music program. It was a gentle reminder for me as to why I teach at that school and why I am not going anywhere. Let the haters hate! * Softball with the J.U.L.A is starting up again and I am excited about this years season. I am very rusty and haven't been to many practices, but I am ready to get back into the swing (pun intended) of it. I played on a volleyball league this fall/winter through CMSA and had a blast. A lot of the same faces, but a different vibe. It was great once again to break out of my comfort zone and meet some new people. * I renewed my lease and will be living the the RP, or RoPo as the Loyola brats call it for another year. * Sammy is doing very well, and is possibly one of the sweetest cats on the planet- I love her so much. Ok, just had to get my crazy cat lady moment out of my system. * Last night I was surprised to find a gay bar opened up down the street from me. That is right, Rogers Park has a gay bar again. The owner of T's/ So Fo opened a bar called The Glenwood located at Glenwood and Morse by the red line. It was nice to go and sit and have a beer and see how many gays actually live up here! SO that is about it for now in my life. I have report card pick-up and parent teacher conferences today, so I don't have to wander over to the west side of the city till noon. I read this yesterday on perezhilton.com......everytime I think of how Brit calls her cigarettes 'lollipops', I giggle! Britney Spears is toxic to her babies, the new issue of Us Weekly is reporting. Just how bad is it? “[Sean] He’s having dental problems because Britney just shoves a bottle of juice in his mouth all the time to stop him from crying,” a family insider tells Us. Spears feeds her kids Doritos, gives the toddlers Coca Cola out of baby bottles and even asked a dentist if he would whiten her kid’s teeth. The dentist refused. When Britney and Kevin were first married, she objected to his smoking around the kids, t, but now “she smokes like a chimney in front of them,” Life & Style is reporting. Even worse, when Brit misplaces her pack of cigarettes, “she’ll actually turn to Sean and say, ‘Baby, where are Mama’s lollipops?’ Sean runs, gets her cigarettes and brings them back to her,” the mag adds. Brit even let her kids run around and make a mess of a house they were looking to potentially buy last week. “She ate tacos on the bedroom floor!” a source tells Us Weekly. “She got crumbs and grease everywhere. She let her babies and her dog roam the floor. She left the bed a mess – I don’t know what’s wrong with her.” She sounds like the perfect mom to us!

With not a alot going on, I present to you, random thoughts and things that are going on in my life
* I recieved my People's Energy bill. I haven't recieved one since I moved in, and have meaning meaning to call them, but in typical Brian fashion, keep putting it off. My bill for the past 3 months was only $37. What a relief!
* I have been running a couple times a week, but decided I also need to get back to going to the gym (what's the point of paying $65 a month for a membership if you're not going to use it). I need to get back into doing some weight trainging with my cardio. My arms are sore.
* About a year ago, my work issued laptop crashed, and the IT guys at work erased my entire iTunes library. Much to my surprise, i found all of my music! I had saved everything to my D drive and it was apparentely untouched! I have long since removed iTunes from my computer, is there anyway to reinstall it and move all the music from my D drive over to iTunes? Remembe... I am technologically imparied.
* I usually HATE IHOP, but when you are drunk, it is like 4 star dining!
